It’s important to be seen by an orthopedic doctor or surgeon as soon as possible, especially before a problem worsens. Providing Joint Care

As the first course of action when treating patients with joint pain, a doctor will prescribe non-surgical solutions, such as anti-inflammatory medication, steroid injections, or physical therapy. However, if the joint pain has persisted for a long time or begins to worsen, joint replacement surgery, such as a total knee replacement, shoulder replacement, or hip replacement, may be needed.

Joint replacement surgery is often used with patients who have been involved in a high-impact accident. For example, they may have been in an auto accident that damaged the joint so severely that it cannot be treated nonsurgically and needs to be repaired through a surgical procedure, like a joint replacement. Joint doctors can also help athletes who have suffered a traumatic injury or have a form of joint degeneration, such as arthritis.

At OrthoAlabama Spine & Sports, our joint replacement experts specialize in performing a wide range of surgeries, from total and partial knee replacement to direct anterior hip replacement and cartilage restoration. Our joint doctors will explain all of your options thoroughly and work with you to determine which treatment is best for you and your joint disorder.

    Joint Revision Surgery

New joints can help those who have been dealing with arthritis or other types of pain for years. However, implants do not last forever. After a certain number of years, these artificial joints will wear down and need to be replaced. The surgery used to remove the existing implant and replace it with a new joint is called revision surgery.

Typically, the younger the patient is when they receive their artificial joint, the more likely it is that a surgeon will need to perform joint revision surgery. However, sometimes a revision doctor will need to replace an implant for another reason. For example, the implant becomes loose, an infection develops, or the implant is damaged during a fall or accident.

In addition to specializing in joint replacement, our joint revision doctors at OrthoAlabama Spine & Sports have completed extensive training in joint revision. Our doctors are highly skilled surgeons with years of experience at removing worn-out artificial joints in the hip and knee and replacing them with new joints.
