Dr. Jonathan Tran Featured in Birmingham Medical News on Treating Low Back Pain

Dr. Jonathan Tran, a fellowship-trained interventional pain management specialist at OrthoAlabama Spine & Sports, was recently featured in Birmingham Medical News, a publication covering health care in the Birmingham area.

In the article, Dr. Tran explains how he decides between ablation and nerve stimulation for patients with low back pain. He combines patient history, imaging findings, and a physical exam to help identify where the pain is coming from, then recommends treatment based on the source. He discusses radiofrequency ablation for pain linked to facet arthritis, as well as ReActiv8®, a neurostimulation option that stimulates the nerves to the muscles supporting the lower spine.

Dr. Tran also notes that treatment is never one-size-fits-all and may include injections, physical therapy, or medication management in addition to procedures. “Each patient is different with different medical problems, and we tailor the treatment to the patient,” he wrote.

Dr. Tran sees patients in Birmingham at 1801 Gadsden Highway and in Hoover at 118 Mars Hill Road. To learn more or to schedule an appointment, please call (205) 228-7600 or schedule an appointment online.
