Local Educator, Coach & Mom Gets Back to Life After Hip Replacement
At just 43 years old, Roseanne G.—an energetic teacher, coach, and mom—was stunned when intense hip pain sidelined her active lifestyle.
In her free time, Roseanne coaches youth basketball and high school cross-country. She also enjoys hiking, water sports, snow sports, and gardening. At first, she thought the pain in her hip, groin, and back was a pulled muscle. But after seeing three doctors and trying physical therapy, it became clear: surgery was the only way forward.
“I was in denial,” Roseanne said. “I could not believe that I could go from high weekly running mileage in September to needing a total hip replacement in December 2024.”
That’s when Roseanne met with Dr. Scott Orr, board-certified orthopedic surgeon and fellowship-trained joint reconstruction specialist.
“Dr. Orr impressed me from my first office visit because he took extensive time to explain why I needed surgery, how he would select the implant, what life would be like during recovery, and what activity would look like after recovery,” Roseanne explained. “Dr. Orr also prayed with me before surgery and called me the morning after to see how I felt. I’ve had a lot of experience with orthopedic surgeons, and my experience with Dr. Orr has been unlike any other!”
After surgery, Roseanne’s groin pain was immediately gone. By the third week, she had to remind herself to take it easy. Six weeks after surgery, she returned to teaching and began rebuilding her strength through Pilates and weight training.
“I can run without pain,” she said, “but Dr. Orr has suggested I find another form of exercise to maintain the longevity of my implant.”
Now, Roseanne has just finished her 16th year in education, and she is as driven as ever to stay active and enjoying life.
