Dr. Brad Goodman is one of the nation's earliest pioneers in interventional spine care and has been practicing at OrthoAlabama Spine & Sports since 1994. While often referred to as a pain specialist, Dr. Goodman approaches his work differently, more as a "pain investigator," focused on identifying the true source of a patient's symptoms and treating the underlying cause rather than simply managing pain.
A leader in minimally invasive, image-guided therapies, Dr. Goodman specializes in precise diagnostic and interventional techniques that allow him to target pathology with accuracy, often avoiding the need for traditional surgery. His philosophy is simple: pain is a clue, not the diagnosis.
Dr. Goodman is a nationally recognized educator and lecturer for the International Pain & Spine Intervention Society, the North American Spine Society, and the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. In 2008, he received the PASSOR Distinguished Clinician Award for his contributions to teaching advanced interventional techniques to physicians across the country.
Dr. Goodman serves as an editor for the Atlas of Image-Guided Spinal Procedures, a leading reference in the field, and has published extensively on topics ranging from kyphoplasty to interventional spine guidelines.
Dr. Goodman has consistently been at the forefront of innovation. He was the first physician in the United States to perform the Intracept procedure upon its commercial release for vertebrogenic pain. He also performed the first ReActiv8 implant in Alabama, helping patients with chronic low-back pain related to multifidus dysfunction. In addition, he is a principal investigator and key opinion leader in orthobiologics.
Dr. Goodman earned his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University, where he was captain of the varsity tennis team and named Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He later received his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine and completed his residency training across Emory University Hospital, Grady Memorial Hospital, the VA Hospital in Atlanta, and the Shepherd Center.
