What Is Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy is a treatment option that helps improve or restore mobility, range of motion, and fitness level in addition to providing pain relief. It is often recommended for patients who have a health problem that affects their mobility or their ability to complete everyday tasks.

The overall goal of physical therapy is to make daily tasks and activities easier to do. For example, physical therapy can be used to help with walking, getting in and out of bed, and going up and down the stairs. It can also be used to help with recovery following orthopedic surgery.

What Is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy is another type of nonsurgical treatment. However, while physical therapy focuses on improving mobility and function, occupational therapy focuses on helping patients perform daily tasks or participate in activities more easily. It is often recommended for patients with pain or an injury that makes their job harder, affects their independence, or keeps them from enjoying the activities they love.

The goal of occupational therapy is to help patients resume their daily activities, recover lost skills, and find adaptive techniques that allow them to regain independence or participate in activities.

What Should You Wear to Your Appointment?

In order to best serve you and treat your injury, we recommend that you wear clothes that are comfortable and allow you to move, such as workout pants, shorts, T-shirts, or tank tops. If needed, we do have gowns available for use when doing certain therapies.
